It has been determined through years of experience that the most practical and sound method of preparing an individual for the electrical trade is through a formal apprenticeship. This provides for employment and training under actual job conditions by skilled workers and at wages commensurate with the apprentice’s knowledge and understanding of the occupation. This knowledge is broadened through participation in approved courses of related and supplementary training. Del Rio Enterprises, Inc. recognizes the need for continuous training to maintain the high levels of skill and competence demanded in this industry, to provide adequate numbers of skilled workers, and to insure public satisfaction and provide for growth and progress of the industry within the community and the nation. DREI is a member of ABC NM and participates in the Electrical Apprenticeship program.

Qualifications for Apprenticeship

An applicant for apprenticeship in the electrical field must be at least 18 years of age, be a high school graduate or have successfully passed the GED equivalent. In addition applicants must have reliable transportation to the Employer’s (DREI’s) place of business or jobsite, and to the place where classroom/job related instruction is conducted. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license.

Term of Apprenticeship

The term of the electrical apprenticeship shall consist of 8,000 hours of on the job training and a minimum of 576 hours of classroom related instruction. Classes are held two nights a week at the Associated Builders and Contractor, Inc. (ABC) campus. All apprentices will be trained in all aspects of the occupation necessary to qualify them upon completion as electricians.
